"Once upon a time, there lived a teenage girl in Wisconsin who was bored. She should have been memorizing her part for , but she didn't want to. What she really wanted to do was write, but she had no inspiration. So she got this great idea...a system of monthly writing challenges to keep everyone's creative juices flowing! She told her friends her idea, and lo and behold, they liked it! And thus The Writing Circle was born..."
(That would be a quote from the TWC FictionPress account.)
Among the members within the TWC, monthly challenges are given out. These challenges determine whether a member may or may not stay within the group. The challenges are pretty much free-form and will consist of how many words minimum and several topics that should be addressed within the written piece. These also have a strict due date and extensions are required to be asked for beforehand with a good reason. Certainly, this is a community dedicated to writing and to better their skills (thus the purpose of these challenges in the first place).
Of course, as a member of the TWC, there is more to it than writing challenges but that is for members to know.
